Advancements in Oral Health

  • This white paper presents the findings of a comprehensive study evaluating the efficacy of a novel dental floss, Wise Floss, in comparison to various existing dental floss products regarding plaque removal. The research aimed to provide evidence supporting the claim that Wise Floss surpasses traditional floss options in promoting superior oral hygiene.

  • Background Dental floss plays a crucial role in maintaining optimal oral health by removing plaque and preventing periodontal diseases. The introduction of Wise Floss seeks to enhance this fundamental dental care routine.

Objective The primary objective of this study was to assess and compare the effectiveness of Wise Floss in plaque removal when compared to commonly used traditional dental floss.

  • A diverse group of participants, representative of different age groups and oral health conditions, were recruited for the study.

A randomized, parallel study was conducted with 12 healthy adults to evaluate the efficacy of the two floss products regarding plaque removal.

Plaque was evaluated before and after surrogate flossing with the assigned floss using the Rustgi Modification of the Navy Plaque Index (RMNPI).

A trained dental hygienist was used to manually floss the inter-proximal spaces of the incisors. The surrogated flossing consisted of 4 total strokes on each proximal surface with floss replenishment after every 8 strokes. For each subject, RMNPI scores for the incisors, interproximal incisors and marginal incisors were analyzed using ANOVA and ANCOVA.

Experimental Design The study employed a randomized controlled trial design, with participants divided into groups using Wise Floss and various traditional dental floss products. Each group followed a standardized flossing routine for a specified duration.

Measurements Plaque levels were assessed before and after the flossing sessions using advanced imaging techniques and clinical evaluations. Participants' feedback on ease of use and comfort was also collected.

  • Plaque Removal Efficacy The results demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in plaque levels among participants using Wise Floss compared to those using traditional dental floss. Wise Floss exhibited superior efficacy in reaching interdental spaces and removing plaque. Wise Floss flossing significantly ( p< 0.003) reduced overall plaque, interproximal plaque and marginal plaque by 71%,63%,and 62% respectively vs JJW by 57%,42%,and 48% respectively.

User Experience Feedback from participants indicated a positive experience with Wise Floss, citing its ease of use, comfort, and effectiveness.

  • Implications The findings suggest that Wise Floss is a promising advancement in oral care, providing a more effective solution for plaque removal compared to traditional dental floss.

Limitations While the study provides valuable insights, it is essential to acknowledge potential limitations such as the short-term nature of the trial and the need for long-term observations.

  • The study concludes that Wise Floss demonstrates superior efficacy in removing plaque compared to existing traditional dental floss options (JJW). These results support the potential of Wise Floss as a valuable tool for maintaining optimal oral hygiene.

  • Further research is recommended to validate these findings over an extended period, considering factors such as long-term oral health outcomes and user compliance. Additionally, comparative studies with a broader range of dental floss products would contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of Wise Floss's place in oral care.
